Social Summer 2018

 

Join us this summer on a social enterprise tour of the UK! #SocialSummer2018 will be running from 1st June to 31st August and is a digital road trip showcasing social enterprises and community businesses you can visit over the summer months from museums, theatres and leisure centres to zoos, skate parks and community owned pubs and cafes. We’re working with Social Enterprise Northern Ireland, Social Enterprise Scotland, the Wales Co-operative Centre and Power to Change, the independent trust that supports and develops community businesses in England, to shine a spotlight on those businesses which are changing lives and their communities whilst being a whole lot of fun to visit! You can see the route as it progresses round the country below

Description

Madlug was founded in 2015 by Dave Linton.  A man whose only experience in the luggage industry was bags of enthusiasm. This 40-something Youth Worker was heartbroken to learn that most children in care transport their worldly belongings in a bin bag. In that moment, Dave set out to do something about it.

With just £480, he started Madlug and came up with our ‘Buy one Give one’ approach: with every bag you purchase, one will be given to a child in care.

Description

BKN first opened its doors in April 2015 with a small stock of old furniture which was given a new lease of life, repairing damage, painting and then selling it on. We upcycle old furniture into high quality unique items.  We also do bespoke work for customers and recently this has been the main focus of our work as our customers see the work that we have done and have asked us if we could do the same with their old furniture.   We are also running a number of workshops where the general public can learn the skills required to do this for themselves. This is through a woodwork class and upcycling. A lot of our furniture comes from the local recycle centres in Fermanagh and it is thanks to Fermanagh & Omagh District Council for allowing us access this resource.
