Update from Our Director - #StrongerTogether Covid 19 Update

As we start another difficult week under the cloud of #COVID19, I wanted to provide you with an update on the work that we are carrying out in support of the social enterprise sector across NI.  We have been continually profiling the needs and concerns of our sector at the highest level within the NI Assembly, and I thank you those that responded to our request for information on how the current crisis is impacting you and your business.

Conversations with Department for Finance and Economy continue to stress the importance of helping the social enterprise sector.  We have pointed to the £20m support and assistance that has been given to our fellow social enterprises and wider Third Sector in Scotland by the Scottish Government.  Last week I also accepted an invitation from the Minister of Communities to attend the initial meeting of the Emergency Leaders Committee and again used this platform to highlight the concerns of the social enterprise sector.  I also reached out to the Chair of the All Party Group on Children and Education in respect of the lack of clarity and support for organisations providing childcare.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to the many of you who responded so generously and promptly to our email last week in respect of the work we have commenced with the Dept of Health to offer premises, assets and staff across NI to support those who will be in isolation.  We will provide further updates over the coming days on this and other initiatives.  I would also draw your attention to a one pager already on our website which highlights the responses we received from the local banks when asked to ensure they extended support to the social enterprise sector.  Make sure to get in touch with your bank if you believe you may be heading towards a period of financial difficulty.
